For 55 years, Friendship Park has stood as a powerful witness to the belief that human dignity and connection can transcend borders. What began as a symbolic gathering place at the edge of two nations has become a lasting movement rooted in encounter, community, and hope: the Friends of International Friendship Park. On Friday, August 14, 2026, we will gather in downtown San Diego UCSD Park & Market from 4 pm – 7 pm to celebrate this remarkable milestone. We will also honor John Fanestil’s retirement and extraordinary leadership and launch the Peace & Friendship Legacy Fund to support the organization’s next generation of leadership and impact.
